The "One Village at a Time" initiative aims to holistically uplift rural communities in Uganda by addressing their most pressing humanitarian needs.

This programme will focus on the construction of schools, income generation projects, places of worship, better accommodation, water wells, and sanitation facilities.

The initiative aligns with the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) to reduce dependencies and empower communities, with a specific focus on the Muslim population in Uganda.

BACKGROUND AND NEED

Uganda, a country with a population of approximately 45 million people, faces significant challenges in rural areas, particularly within its Muslim communities.

The Muslim population, making up about 14% of Uganda’s total population, often resides in underdeveloped regions where access to basic needs and services is limited.

Key Statistics:
POVERTY

Approximately 21.4% of Ugandans live below the national poverty line, with higher rates in rural areas.

EDUCATION

The net primary school enrolment rate is about 90%, but the quality of education remains a challenge, with high dropout rates and low completion rates.

WATER & SANITATION

Only 19% of the rural population has access to improved sanitation facilities, and 72% has access to safe drinking water.

HEALTH

Access to healthcare in rural areas is limited, contributing to high rates of preventable diseases.

This philosophy underscores the importance of collective responsibility and mutual support in child-rearing and community development.

By focusing on a holistic approach, the "One Village at a Time" initiative leverages this cultural value to foster a supportive environment where every member contributes to and benefits from communal progress.

CONCEPT AND OBJECTIVES

The "One Village at a Time" initiative seeks to create sustainable and empowered communities through a multi-faceted approach:

Specific Focus on the Muslim Population in Uganda

The initiative places a special emphasis on the Muslim population in Uganda, recognising their unique needs and contributions. In many Muslim communities, mosques serve not only as places of worship but also as centers for education and social services. By building and supporting these facilities, the initiative will:

Provide spaces for religious and educational activities, helping to preserve cultural and religious practices.

Promote inclusive development that respects and integrates the needs of the Muslim
community.

Encourage participation and leadership within the community, fostering a sense of ownership and responsibility.

We invite you to join us in this transformative journey to uplift rural communities in Uganda. Your support can make a significant difference in the lives of many.
