Fidya – For Those Unable to Fast
Fidya is a mandatory payment for those who cannot fast due to a valid reason such as chronic illness, pregnancy, old age, or any condition where fasting is permanently difficult. If a person is unable to make up for missed fasts later, Fidya must be given.
- £5 per missed fast provides two meals to a person in need.
- If fasting for the entire month is not possible, the total Fidya is £150.
- Fidya directly supports the poor, ensuring that those who struggle with hunger receive nourishment.
Why Give Fidya?
- It allows you to fulfill your obligation while making a direct impact.
- Provides immediate relief to those struggling to find food.
- Helps you earn immense rewards in Ramadan, when good deeds are multiplied.
Kaffarah – Making Amends for Deliberately Breaking a Fast
Two options for atonement:
- Feed 60 people – providing two meals per day for 60 individuals or for one person for 60 days (£300 total).
- Fast for 60 consecutive days if financially unable to pay.
Why Give Kaffarah?
- It serves as a way to seek forgiveness and make up for broken fasts.
- Supports those facing extreme hunger and hardship.
- Helps restore the blessings of Ramadan by turning mistakes into an act of generosity.
