The Prophet Muhammad (ﷺ) said:"Zakat al-Fitr is to purify the fasting person from indecent words or actions and to provide food for the needy." (Abu Dawood)

Fidya – For Those Unable to Fast

Fidya is a mandatory payment for those who cannot fast due to a valid reason such as chronic illness, pregnancy, old age, or any condition where fasting is permanently difficult. If a person is unable to make up for missed fasts later, Fidya must be given.

  • £5 per missed fast provides two meals to a person in need.
  • If fasting for the entire month is not possible, the total Fidya is £150.
  • Fidya directly supports the poor, ensuring that those who struggle with hunger receive nourishment.

  • Fast for 60 consecutive days if financially unable to pay.
